Sleepy Sous-Chefs
The sous-chefs are sleeping, therefore it is time to get cooking. Not that the twins aren't a tremendous help. For instance, if you need someone to stir plastic food in a pot, Ladybird is your woman. And if you want someone to drool on everything, Gibble is your man. But if you want to steam some potatoes and not have them overcook, you may not want to start that task while they're awake.
Though I had great success this morning with Dave Lieberman's stuffing recipe. I baked a loaf of French bread yesterday. Today I cubed it, made a mushroom/vegetable broth mixture, and baked the whole thing for forty minutes while I listened to Christmas music. I love that they start Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving on the local easy-listening radio station. And I loved this stuffing recipe which turned out fluffy and moist and Thanksgiving-y.
I also did a Bed, Bath, and Beyond run mid-day to pick up a ceramic pie pan. I had visited Williams-Sonoma over the weekend and balked at their $39 price for a pie pan. I had assured myself that there would be an $8 version at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. But in the end, it turns out that $30 is the going rate for a ceramic pie pan. Which is why I have the Pyrex one for $3.99.
It's back to the kitchen for side dishes and cranberry sauce. I'm going to start posting recipes soon so everyone can eat in style.
